Struggling Sligo stunned Dundalk as two first-half goals from Romeo Parkes and Dante Leverock, either side of Patrick Hoban’s penalty, gave Liam Buckley’s men only their third win in nine games.

The hosts, without suspended playmaker Ronan Murray, came into this game on the back of three successive losses in the Premier Division.

Dundalk, 10 points off leaders Shamrock Rovers prior to kick-off, were looking to bounce back from their first loss of the campaign, a 1-0 away defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic, with Robbie Benson, Patrick McEleney and Chris Shields all unavailable because of injury.

Parkes’ third of the season gave Sligo an incredible start with just 27 seconds on the clock. He tapped home a cross from Lewis Banks. .

Dundalk drew level via a spot-kick on 23 minutes when Patrick Hoban netted after Kyle Callan-McFadden was penalised for a handball. Sligo regained the lead from a 41st-minute corner. David Cawley’s delivery was flicked on by Parkes and defender Leverock got the final touch.
